[attr="class","afir4"]The Bloody Harpy was always a bustling place. Today was no exception. Several patrons have already arrived despite how early it was. Levi wasn't here on a social visit however. He had been asked by the owner of the tavern to venture into the cellar and clear out the rats that had infested it. The barrels of ale and wine in the cellar would be perfect additions to the celebration festival. However the cellar had changed a bit since the last time Levi had been down there, supposedly one of the Goddesses had decided on turning the basement into some sort of dungeon. Not that it mattered, Levi had received some help in his endeavor. Gideon, a strange man who seems a little out of touch with current events, and Lance, a young man with only one eye but professes to be some sort of mercenary despite his more refined getup.

"This is the cellar," Levi told his companions. "Or it used to be the cellar, now it seems a bit larger than normal." The first room of the dungeon still looked very much like the average cellar, dirt floor with some wooden walls and a ceiling that is truly a the floor of the Bloody Harpy. The walls are lined with shelves of bottles of alcohol in varying stages of emptiness. "Hopefully it won't take too long to clear this out. Anyone have any questions or suggestions before we head deeper in?" He asked his two companions.

[attr="class","india"]Lance frequented places similar to the Bloody Harpy. The atmosphere drew him in like a moth to a lamplight. Drinks were the best way to end a long day. Or a long week. Not to mention the people were pretty interesting to be around. Though of course today he was here much earlier than usual, and for work as opposed to play. The cellar felt like a different place compared to the main floor. It didn't seem like much at first glance. Just dusty, dark, and quiet compared to upstairs.

They'd be underground. So there was more than a chance that they'd come across some places where visibility would be low. Or nonexistent due to lack of light. Lance was used to running half-blind, but being completely blind in a literal rat's nest wasn't something he wanted to experience. Especially with his luck in dark places.

“As long as we have a reliable source of light, I think we'll be able to manage.”
He shrugged. That was really his only major concern. The possibility of getting lost did cross his mind but was quickly overshadowed by the idea of being stuck in the dark. Not to mention  the two sort of went hand in hand. It would be awfully hard to have to navigate blind in unknown territory. Also hard to really take on anything that were attuned to that sort of lifestyle. 

Lance turned his attention from the environment back to his new companions. He knew their names, but nothing more than that. It was odd, working with strangers. Naturally he started to form opinions of them based on appearance alone. They seemed to know what they were doing... Hopefully.

[attr="class","afir4"]There was now a big problem. Gideon had just up and vanished, leaving Levi and Lance to deal with this dungeon themselves. Levi felt that the two of them could do it, it would be difficult but they could do it. "Well that doesn't make this easy." Levi commented on their lack of companionship. "Don't worry Lance we can do this ourselves."

Levi nodded his head in agreement about the lighting situation. "It would be a good idea to take on of these torches with us. But that would also make it more difficult in combat as only one of us fully able to attack. And I would assume that there may be quite a bit of combat down here." This wasn't Levi's first dungeon crawl, but it was the first he had lead alone. "I leave it up to you if you want to grab a torch."

Levi was about to head into the next room when he saw something on the floor. A half buried paper. Picking it up, Levi dusted it off and examined it. "Well this will be useful for sure." He exclaimed. "It appears to be some sort of map, seemingly of this dungeon. It looks as if there's a room off to the side here, one we can only get into from a secret passage." Something special would be in that room for sure. "Well let's continue on then." Levi led the way into the next room.

Once he passed through door there was a loud hiss. Inside the room already were five dire rats. Larger and more dangerous than your average rat. The rats were startled and that gave Levi and Lance the first strike. Levi took advantage of this by striking at the closest rat. He had brought his sword, Petros, as he had anticipated close quarter combat like this. As much as preferred his spear it would have been too awkward to use down here. Petros was a strong blade, with one hit it killed one dire rat.

Lance let out a small frustrated huff. Gideon's sudden departure wasn't ideal. In fact it made the mission seem a bit more daunting. Especially with Lance being a novice at this. Hopefully, they'll have better luck as they go on. He smiled at Levi.
“Of course we can.”

The cons of not grabbing one outweighed the cons of having a harder time fighting. If he brought it, at least he'd be able to see what he was trying to swing his sword at. Or if it came to it, they could try to use the torch defensively. After all, Most animals won't dive over fire to get to your face. Lance unsheathed his sword before grabbing one of the torches with his free hand.
“I'd take harder fights over being blind any day. Besides, if they're underground maybe they don't like bright things.”
He mused, holding the torch up at eye level.

“I guess we're not quite as unlucky as I thought.” He said with a laugh. That definitely cancels out the annoying start. Secret rooms, secret special loot. Ohhh... this is going to be good. He nodded following Levi's lead. As they crossed the threshold, Lance tightened his grip on both the torch and his sword. Ready to use both if necessary.

The sound was a welcome warning. Giving him enough time to slip past Levi, and swing his sword at one of the Dire rats reared back to strike. It wasn't necessarily difficult to use his sword while carrying the torch, but it sure wasn't ideal. Lance scrunched up his nose at the noise the rat made when he hit it. Just shut up and die, darn it. But of course, it wasn't going to be too simple. He was half tempted to hiss back at it.

[attr="class","afir4"]Levi smiled as he watched his companion hack at one of the Dire Rats. Lance certainly seemed capable enough in the element of combat. "Dire Rats may not be the most deadly of foes but they certainly are tenacious." The lad told Lance. "Don't let them overwhelm you." Levi's words were almost prophetic.

The Rat that Lance had struck hissed at the traveler and bared it's teeth. After it's attempt at scaring the amphibian merchant, the injured Rat bit at him. After seeing it's mate attacking Lance, another Dire Rat attacked him as well, it's teeth yellow and jagged.

The other two Rats saw Levi strike down one of their own and turned their attention to him. They both lunged at the warrior teeth bared and eyes full of primal rage. Having anticipated this however, Levi was able to strike at one in mid-lunge, critically slicing the Rat in half. He wasn't so lucky with the other one though, the last Rat sunk his gnarled fangs into Levi's skin, breaking the surface and drawing blood. "Aah!" The leader of the two man group gasped in pain.

“Wasn't planning on it!”
Lance took a step back, tightening his grip on his sword. The injured rat wasn't going to back down, and the man found himself hissing back at it through clenched teeth. He stabbed at the rodent of unusual size as it moved to attack him back. The blade went in with some resistance, stopping the creature in it's path. It screeched and writhed, trying to pull itself off the blade. But it did more damage to itself in the process. Blood seeping out around the blade and onto the floor.

With the man's full attention on finishing off the rat on the end of his sword, it's mate managed to get a hit in. It's yellowed teeth cut through the leather of his boots and into the soft skin of the side of his calf. Lance winced, clenching his jaw as the pain set in. He tried to kick the Dire Rat off of his leg as he pulled his sword free. But the creature grabbed on with its clawed hands as it's jaw strength waned.

“Shit!” He hissed through gritted teeth. The torch in his hand moved with him until he finally managed to knock the rat off. It hissed and skittered back. It's jagged teeth now tinted red with blood. The wound in his leg stung, and at that moment Lance found himself praying that it didn't just give him some gross rat disease. They stared at each other, as Lance readied himself for the next attack. Without taking his eye off the rat he called over to Levi. “You alright?” he had heard him gasp at some point, but was too preoccupied to look in his direction.


Dire Rat B attacked Lance but missed. Lance attacked B for 5 damage and killed it.
Dire Rat C attacked Lance, and successfully dealt 5 Damage.

There was a high pitched shriek as Lance slew another rat. "Good job." Levi called out. Three rats were down and only two more to go. Levi raised his sword and slashed at one of the two remaining beasts. The rat took notice of Levi's attack and before the blade could strike it, it lunged at the warrior. Levi managed to sidestep the rat's teeth and counter with the pommel of his blade. A loud crack echoed through the room as Levi split open the rats skull.

Having watched it's vermin companions fall around it, the final rat gave a loud hiss before turning tail and running deeper into the dungeon. "That's a oddly intelligent move for a rat, even a dire rat." Levi looked around the room they were in, there wasn't much too it, looked similar to the one they had just left. There didn't seem to be anything of value in here. "I say we move onward." Levi suggested.

From deeper in the dungeon came a loud, guttural roar, sounding almost as if a lion was imitating a rat. Whatever was making that noise was certainly going to be very dangerous.
